The International Peace College of South Africa (IPSA) held its first BA HONOURS IN ISLAMIC STUDIES (BAHIS) graduation on the 30th of November 2019 at the Islamia Auditorium, Lansdowne. The cohort of 32 graduants included prominent religious leaders from across the Cape, such as Sh Riaad Fataar, Sh Waseem Abrahams, Ml Sayed Imraan Ziaee, Sh Nabiel Majiet, Mufti Haroon Azhari, Sh Wahib Jabaar, Shh Radiyah Joseph, Sh Abdullah Allie, Sh Yusuf Agherdien and others. 12 passed with Cum Laude, including IPSA undergrad lecturer Ihsaan Frieslaar, Rashaad Amra, Abdul-Ghafoor Kamaldien, Gadija Darries and Dr Yusuf Patel. Guest speaker Prof Aslam Fataar highlighted the dire need for utilizing traditional Islamic principles of Maqasid al-Shariah to enable the applicability of the Deen in our modern context, through a "traditional critical approach". Senior visiting lecturer Dr Jasser Auda - in a prerecorded message from Canada- hailed the role played by IPSA in combining a traditional epistemology with a contemporary vision. The program commenced with the South African national Anthem and concluded with Salawat.
